Memorial Day Weekend
The unofficial start of summer is just around the corner. Memorial Day Weekend. While summer doesn’t begin for another month there is no debate that MDW is the kick off of summer. We love it. Long weekend, longer days and sunshine. Doesn’t get any better,
We are as guilty as anyone of neglecting our backyard during the dark days of winter. Now that you can be outside you’ll want to maximize your experience as much as possible. That means getting a few things in order.
Outdoor Grilling
If you grill has been hibernating all winter, take it out, clean it off and make sure you stock up on pellets, charcoal or gas. Test out your grill to make sure it is ready to go. You don’t want to host a summer BBQ and find out right before that your grill isn’t functioning properly. If you grill is old and you feel like you deserve a new toy then treat yourself. Whether you are a charcoal, gas or pellet smoker type, it is always fun to impulsively purchase a new toy. Team DUCKCHAR encourages it.
The Yard
If you live in a cold winter climate, chances are your backyard is a little neglected during the winter. Maybe this year spruce things up. Purchase new outdoor patio furniture or cultivate an outdoor jungle. A few tips. If shopping for flowers or plants, think about what you want before you head to Home Depot. Chart out your garden beds and look to others for inspiration. Architectural Digest and Better Homes and Gardens are great resources. Plus, the folks at your local nursery can provide guidance about which plants are best for your local climate and where and how to plant them.
Memorial Day
Lastly and most importantly, let’s not forget why we have a three day weekend on the last Monday in May. Memorial Day honors those who made the ultimate sacrifice defending our country. Take some time to pay homage or reflect on the sacrifices others made that allow us to enjoy our freedom. Check with your local community, there is definitely an event nearby paying tribute to the brave men and women who lost their lives defending our freedom. Spending time with friends and family is the best but it is important to take a moment to reflect on why we enjoy the opportunities we have and who is responsible for making that possible.
